Het diner
Als je een beetje rondneust in de reviews van dit boek, zie je vooral 3 sterren ratings.Deze 3 sterren ratings snap ik wel, na het lezen van hun reviews: ze vinden de karakters akelig, ze voelen er geen connectie mee, je kunt er geen sympathie voor opbrengen.
Nou, dat is maar goed ook!
Je moest je pas zorgen gaan maken, wanneer je wel een connectie voelt met de karakters.
Iedereen die mij(en mijn smaak in boeken) een beetje goed kent, weet dat ik dol ben op psychologische thrillers, en vooral wanneer ze complexe, duistere karakters bevatten, die totaal fucked up zijn.
Dus ja, de karakters zijn akelig, maar ik hou er van .
Het verhaal is opgesplitst in delen, deze delen staan voor de verschillende gangen van het diner: aperitief, voorgerecht, hoofdgerecht, toetje, digestief en fooi. Ik vond dit heel erg origineel bedacht.
Het enige minpuntje is de onwaarschijnlijkheid van het verhaal.
Niet de daad op zich - want, ongelooflijk maar waar - dat soort dingen gebeuren echt.
Maar dat er zo over gesproken wordt tijdens een diner in een restaurant.
Dit heeft er voor gezorgd dat ik 4 sterren geef in plaats van 5.
De glazen stolp
[b:The Bell Jar|6514|The Bell Jar|Sylvia Plath|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1473890514s/6514.jpg|1385044] stond echt al eeuwen op mijn TBR, en afgelopen augustus heb ik de Nederlandse vertaling voor mijn verjaardag gekregen, dus kon ik eindelijk beginnen!Dit boek is ontzettend makkelijk te lezen. De vertaling is goed, de schrijfstijl is prachtig poëtisch (logisch, [a:Sylvia Plath|4379|Sylvia Plath|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1373572652p2/4379.jpg] schreef vooral poëzie), en dit allemaal zorgt ervoor dat het een hele prettige leeservaring is.
Het meekijken in het hoofd van een vrouw met een depressie vond ik echt een hele fascinerende beleving. Terwijl er eigenlijk niks spannends gebeurt in dit boek, bleef het mij toch boeien.
Basiskennis geschiedenis
Dit boek is geschreven om startende pabo-studenten voor te bereiden op hun entreetoets Mens en Wereld. Ik heb geen interesse om naar de Pabo te gaan, en heb dit enkel gelezen om mijn algemene kennis bij te spijkeren. Op de middelbare school vond ik geschiedenis niet leuk, maar nu, 10 jaar later ben ik er erg in geïnteresseerd. Dit boek bevat de leerstof van geschiedenis op een overzichtelijke manier. Het is verdeeld in 10 tijdvakken, en deze tijdvakken worden bekeken door de volgende invalshoeken: sociaal-economisch, politiek-sociaal, cultureel-religieus en bronnen. Elk tijdvak wordt afgesloten met informatie over musea, en een vragenlijst. Het is de basiskennis, dus veel dingen wist ik al, maar het is een zeer goede opfrisser.
Wisseling van de wacht
5 sterren, zowel voor het boek, als voor de hele serie.Wat een afsluiter!
De serie begon als een hele goede crime serie, maar in dit laatste boek is er weer de ' paranormale horror ' toegevoegd, waar King zo om bekend staat. Dit was zo goed gedaan, ik zat elke keer op het puntje van mijn stoel, zo spannend.
Ik vind het jammer dat de serie nu afgelopen is, en zal het fantastische trio Bill, Jerome en Holly missen.
De kronieken van Narnia
Ik heb dit boek gewonnen, en deze maand ook eindelijk helemaal uitgelezen. Hele leuke verhalen voor kinderen. Mijn favorieten: 'Het neefje van de tovenaar', 'de reis van het drakenschip' en 'de zilveren stoel'.
Misschien ooit
Weer een heel mooi boek van [a:Colleen Hoover|5430144|Colleen Hoover|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1464032240p2/5430144.jpg]. Zij kan zo goed karakters creëren, ik vond iedereen (behalve Hunter en Tori) zo leuk.
En juist omdat Colleen Hoover zulke fantastische karakters heeft gemaakt, is het moeilijk om boos te zijn op iemand, moeilijk om een kant te kiezen.
Een hele leuke toevoeging aan dit boek is dat de liedjes, die in dit boek geschreven worden, ook daadwerkelijk te luisteren zijn op youtube / spotify. Zo origineel, en het is ook nog eens heel mooi gezongen.
Al met al vond ik het een prachtig verhaal, met een heel mooi einde.
Ik denk dat dit boek in de originele taal (Engels) nog meer impact zou hebben gehad.
Het laatste gevecht (De Kronieken van Narnia, #7)
Dit is echt het allerslechtste einde van een serie ooit Ik ben een beetje overstuur van dit laatste deel... Dit is geen Narnia?
Het vrolijke, kleurige Narnia vol avonturen.
Het was niet zo avontuurlijk als de eerdere delen. Het had geen leuke karaktertrekjes of hele grappige momenten, zoals de eerdere delen. Dit deel was gewoon saai.
In [b:De leeuw, de heks en de kleerkast|22669254|De leeuw, de heks en de kleerkast|Lewis, C.S.|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1404640677s/22669254.jpg|42171456] vond ik de Bijbelreferenties mooi. In dit boek kwamen ze ook weer heel erg naar voren, alleen voelden ze hier als een soort propaganda voor het Christendom.
Over het geheel gezien vond ik de serie prachtig, maar ik had eerlijk gezegd verwacht dat het laatste deel het allerbeste deel zou zijn, en dat is nu absoluut niet het geval.

Champion: A Legend Novel
The end.Again, nothing to special, but it was okay.
I didn't like the ending though. Day has short term memory loss and doesn't remember June. After 10 years she is still sobbing for him, and then they meet again, and he does remember her this time. For real? Why is such a powerful heroine still crying over a guy TEN YEARS LATER? .
Prodigy
The first book [b:Legend|9275658|Legend (Legend, #1)|Marie Lu|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1333909141s/9275658.jpg|14157512] lacked worldbuilding, but it was made up in this part.We get a lot of new information about the Colonies, the Republic, the war, and the history, which was interesting to read about.
Though the plot was a bit slow, it still was a good book.
Ps. Really hated Tess in this book.
A Monster Calls
Everyone is raving about this book. It is suppose to stay in your heart, make you cry. It is suppose to break you . So obviously me and my oversensitive personality (that could even cry over an dr. Phil episode) had high expectations.
For a short book like this, it deals with a lot of heavy topics: bullying, cancer, divorced parents, and a dying mother. It tries too hard to wring those tears.
I feel like the book is written for a younger audience (teens or pre-teens) by the writingstyle, but wonder if it would be too intense to deal with when you're that young?
I liked the stories of the tree though. They were thought provoking, and really wise.
The illustrations were made by the same man who illustrated Harry Potter. They really gave a new dimension to this book.
Overall, I liked it, but it didn't live up to my expectations.
The Lying Game
Girl finds her long lost twin, and when she goes to visit her, it turns out that she is murdered. The girl is threatened by the killer to pretend she is her long lost twin, so nobody knows she's gone, or else....Yes, that sounds bad, doesn't it?
I managed to get myself over that improbable plot, only to find myself annoyed by the improbable choices of our main character. So many times I wanted to scream at my book, because she kept making stupid decisions.
The characters were cliché; mean rich girl, dull jock, attractive loner, etc.
And do girls really talk the way they do in this book? With al those abbreviations and references to fashion brands or famous people?
And another thing that annoyed me was the unclear switch between 1st person and 3th person narrative.
Sorry this review turned out more as a rant.
Vicious
Fast paced, compelling, unique , I absolutely loved this!I heard this book was about good vs evil, but this was evil vs even more evil .
I was intrugued from the very first page.
The story is written in different times, the present day (even two days ago, two hours ago) and ten years ago, when our main protagonists Eli and Victor were college roommates. It also changes POV's.
This way Victoria Schwab builds up the climax, and really unfolds the story.
Anyone who really knows me, knows how much I love dark and complex characters. Well, our two protagonist fit that description perfectly.
There isn't one hero and one villain in this book, because Eli and Victor are both messed up . Besides Eli and Victor, there are also some great side characters, which I loved.
Besides an addictive writingstyle, and great characters, the plot is fantastic! It's nothing like anything i've ever read before.
And that ending...
Sequel now, please.... *wishes she has Serena's power*
Wat ons niet zal doden
I loved [b:The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo|2429135|The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1)|Stieg Larsson|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1327868566s/2429135.jpg|1708725] and [b:The Girl Who Played with Fire|5060378|The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium, #2)|Stieg Larsson|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1351778881s/5060378.jpg|6976108], and - though not as much as the previous two - i enjoyed [b:The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest|6892870|The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (Millennium, #3)|Stieg Larsson|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1327708260s/6892870.jpg|12883496]. Unfortunately Stieg Larrson has passed away, but his father and brother asked David Lagercrantz (writer of [b:I am Zlatan Ibrahimovic|18832749|I am Zlatan Ibrahimovic|Zlatan Ibrahimović|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1384815669s/18832749.jpg|18201568],which was great!) to keep his legacy alive, and continue with this series.
This isn't [a:Stieg Larsson|706255|Stieg Larsson|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/authors/1246466225p2/706255.jpg], but it's not bad.
Like the previous books, the beginning is very complex. There were a lot of characters being introduced at once, that it was a bit hard to follow.
The plot wasn't my thing: Quantum mechanic (?), hacking, internet security... I can't even describe it properly.
I did like the pace of this story. In the beginning it's a bit slow, but then things get exciting and the pace really speeds up.
Though the story didn't have as much Lisbeth in it as i wished it had, there were still great moments with her. I loved her interaction with August, and how protective she was of him.
I also enjoyed to get to know more about her history with her evil twin and that is also what makes me want to continue with this serie (i heard that there were going to be 10 books?!), because i really want to know what will happen with that.
Overall it was an okay book, but not as great as the first three books.
Pride and Prejudice
This book took me more than a month to read. The first half was such a struggle for me. Because English isn't my first language, I had some troubles with those (veryyyy) long sentences, that contained words I defenitly didn't learn in school. At about 55 - 60% of the book I started to like it. The romance started, I had something to root for, and I really got into the story.
I loved reading about that time, it's so fascinating. There was such a pressure on woman to get married, and be admirable by having proper manners, have drawing skills and musical talent.
I bet Jane Austen didn't imagine that 200 years later girls would be studying till their mid-twenties, make a carreer, and just looked for their future partner on the internet.
I loved the characters in this book. Mr Bennet is really funny, Mrs. Bennet is so dramatic that it's hilarious. Lizzy's sister Lydia is one of the most annoying persons in a book, ever.
They were well described, and got their own personality in this book.
De zilveren stoel
Vluchten, vechten, reuzen, heksen, een prins...Dit boek heeft alles wat ik van een goed kinderboek verwacht!
Het zit vol actie, en is een van mijn favoriete verhalen van de serie geworden.
